Preparations are now underway to begin Universalis' first manned flight to Tarsica. The launch will occur on New Year's Eve from Tiberion using a ballistic capsule spacecraft dubbed the Odysseus. The design is based upon the Orion craft. The Odysseus will be put into orbit using an Ares I type booster rocket. An image of the rocket and spacecraft can be see here. While this uses traditional methods for launching into orbit rather than relying on fusion power, we feel that this will be the safer route for putting the first mission on the moon. Subsequent missions will begin using fusion-powered shuttles to reclaim the Vi'Ix station and ferry materials to the lunar surface for the construction of a permanent base. The objective of this mission is to land a team on the moon, scout for potential base sites, and conduct preliminary experiments and collect data. Once complete, the crew will return to Micras to complete the study, and the second mission will be initiated based on those reports.

I think we really should be the first ones to land on the moon, we are the technology nation...

Yeah, unfortunately a few others have beat us to the punch. Natopia also has a space station, but they aren't very active with using it.

Well...we might not be first - but we can ensure we are the BEST!

Indeed, I want to get the Vi'Ix reclamation mission going as well so that we can ramp up our power in space.

And then... ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT!
Interestingly enough, I was having a shower after watching an episode of SGA, and thought to myself; "Sinking the city? What a stupid idea!" The wraith could easily adapt their weapons to hit submerged targets from orbit, it's a simple matter of sending a blast down prior to the projectiles impact on the water, destroying it's surface tension... I think I just tore a whole science fiction series apart... aww...

Yeah, I love SGA, but sometimes they just annoy me with the plainly stupid things they do.

No, but seriously. A sub-orbit ship can even hit underwater targets with these upgrades. I say we market them in the name of Universalis!

Sounds like a plan!
