Due to the small size of Universalis (geographically speaking), many of its cities are large and, thanks to modern arcology, are able to carry a larger population capacity. Thus most cities are considered megacities, especially Aristarchus, Universalis' largest city and capital. The city itself was planned out from the beginning on an open hillside with access to a fresh water source and for the eventual spike in population which would eventually lead to megacity status. Room was kept aside to allow for expansion, while engineers devised architecture that could support a large population: skyscrapers and immensely tall buildings. Roads and transit routes were planned prior to the construction of buildings and neighborhoods, allowing for a gridded network that keeps traffic flowing smoothly, and for defense. The city is built upwards rather than outwards, with the most prominent feature being the continuity of metal and concrete which contrasts abruptly with the boundaries of the city, wherein the natural landscape is preserved both for environmental purposes and as part of the watershed.
