A topic of concern lately has been the Ashkenatzi rouge proposal to build and test a massive nuclear weapon. I dropped an idea in the bucket at the MCS by saying that a nuclear non-proliferation group should be formed, banning both testing and construction of nuclear weapons. While in reality this only pertains to recwars, I do feel it is an important matter of diplomacy and should be an aim of Universalis as a whole to spread this idea.
But to begin with, I think we should ratify this law here.
Thoughts on this?

Chairman,
I agree that this is a good idea. I can think of no better example of the perversion of science than nuclear weapons. I feel we should join those of good conscience in banning their development, testing, and usage. It disturbs me greatly to know that there are those who would use our beloved science to create something so devastating.
Perhaps we could take a look at the NPT and try to adapt it to our uses? Otherwise, I would have to leave the wording to others, since this is not my field.

Ahem. I have designed two superweapons in the last couple o months, one for Gralus and one for Shieroth. Neither of which can be taken out by anything less than two other superweapons working in conjunction or a tactical nuclear strike by three nations combined arsenal. Or magic...
If we dont defend ourselves, we could get PWN'd. And, yes, I actually worked out those figures when I made them.

Gralus and Shireroth are, however, both Micran superpowers. By comparison we certainly are not. So it does make sense that they would have WMDs. However, I still feel that Universalis can spearhead nuclear non-proliferation on Micras. Perhaps to the point of convincing others to dismantle their WMD stockpiles.
What are these weapons you designed, Fides?

A series of orbital satellites, the idea being to accelerate light and focus it as it passes through each component until it make one huge ************* laser! (I dont even know a word with that many letters)
The other one is a massive seismic generator, the exact physics of which I wont go into here (because I already did that elsewhere... twice...) that can cause any natural disaster you can name anywhere on Micras except the Flying Islands of Nelaga (who we could take out with normal missiles anyway...)

Actually...if we consider it to be all one word: "motherf***ing" actually fits perfectly. :-p

Well, all said, lasers and earthquakes are kinda better than nukes. At least they don't leave behind radiation.
So I suppose we could still go ahead with a "no nukes" policy and just have alternative weapon systems.

Sounds like a good plan, Chairman

Would you like me to design an alternate weapons system?

So; do we want a) A missile grid? b) A satellite? c) A [Moon] base with missiles? d) An anti missile system? e) A shield generator?
And do we want it to be offensive or defensive?

Definitely defensive.
I would really like to take advantage of our spaceport, so I'm inclined towards both a satellite and moon base. But I'd also like to have a defense network in place to deter any attacks.

I agree with the Chairman. Let us not pervert our beloved sciences in the cause of destructive devices. We should, however, ensure that should anyone choose to use said devices against us, they will find us well-prepared.
