How much land area would be protected by a shield? Or would it be a series of individual shields in the major cities?

If you've read Dune; there'd a shield wall around our border, then we'll put up a roof with boosters in every major city (and some in the wilderness). But how we'll get the power I have no clue... I'll have the specs written up when you give me the exact size of our landmass.

Even in Dune tho the shield wall only extended around Arrakeen. And part of that was a natural stone barrier.
It probably makes more sense just to set up a defense grid of shielded cities and overlapping radii with deflection devices.

Okay; I think I've done the physics of it,
If we can generate the shield between two towers (i.e. one strand linking every tower to every other tower) something like this:
Tesla
Neg Magnetic Field
Air
Pos Magnetic Field
Tesla
Then we have a super-compressed air corridor held in place with electricity. This, like the Holtzman Shields, eliminates all that messy mucking about with lowering shields for allies; they simply slow down enough to pass through. Likewise; anything hostile that slows down enough to pass through is a sitting duck for our AA, and the explosion would be stopped by the shield.
Does that work? I'm pretty sure it does, but I've only just finished grade 10...

It reminds me of the tesla towers from Red Alert.  That's still pretty short range tho. I don't know anything about the Holzman Generators tho, so I'll have to read up on that. Your idea will work, but it'll require we build a LOT of towers around major cities. Also, what happens if we try to fire a missile or something thru the shield at an advancing enemy? Wouldn't the missile get zapped? |
