Celestine Dogs are a breed of Polar Husky more closely related to wild wolves than domestic dogs. They are, however, extremely faithful and powerful. The dogs have been used for centuries by Native Universals and were brought into the mainstream when the Celestial Isles were first settled by the Lavalonians. They are now the dominant sled and pack dog of the Universal Polar Regions (Celestine Isles, Koloniatsk, etc). The Celestine Dog was bred, first from domesticated wolf pups captured in the wild, and later bred from that initial domesticated stock. The breeding of domestic upon domestic stock has genetically imprinted the dogs so that, while able to revert to a feral state in the wild, are still primarily dependent upon humans for their livelihood. That being said, Celestine Dogs are extremely smart and, when not pulling a sled or carrying packs, will accompany hunters on the trail. Their speed and keen sense of smell and sight allow them to home in on prey and catch it; usually faster than a hunter can even point the weapon. In today's era of modern science and convenience, Celestine Dogs have become more of a pet hobby than serving as actual pack animals. Yet for rural communities within the Polar Regions, they are still used to great effect, and are essential to the human way of life as well as their own.
